The Fishing Village

At the turn of the 20th century, Japanese and Asian-Americans living in Santa Monica earned their livelihood by fishing. The community lived and worked in a fishing village next to the Long Wharf near the entrance to Temescal Canyon. Tragically, little evidence remains from this community: the village was destroyed by fire in 1916, and the Pacific Coast Highway was built over its location.
