The Belmar Community

The Belmar Triangle was home to a thriving African American community for over half a century until it was demolished as part of an eminent domain seizure. This collection shows the vibrant lives and culture that residents created for themselves in the face of pervasive racism. Today, you can visit Historic Belmar Park at 4th Street and Olympic Boulevard to learn more about this history and erasure.
