Garfield Elementary School
Garfield, zoned to capture students of color, was moved to the Broadway area in 1932. In 1951, when Dr. Al Quinn was hired as the first African American teacher, nearly 75% of the students at Garfield were African American, and the rest primarily Mexican American. Garfield was disbanded in 1958.
