Barred from other parts of Santa Monica, the people of the Broadway neighborhood created a thriving, tight-knit community of color in the mid-20th century. The blocks between Euclid Street and 20th Street formed the heart of the Broadway neighborhood. The history of this area – now physically erased – illuminates both past inequities and the inspirational individuals who created a center of social and civic life on their own terms.
